History

St. Fiachra’s Junior School opened it’s doors for the 1st time on the 7th Jan 1976 .The building of the school was started in the Autumn of 1974 on a greenfield site off Scelly’s Lane (as it was known at the time) which had been purchased by the Dublin Diocese as it was recognised that there was a need for a new school and parish due to the growing population in the area.Fr.Quigley PP of Donnycarney was the man in charge of employing teachers and overseeing the building programme.

He came to an arrangement with Mother Michael , Principal of The Loreto Primary School in Hill St. Dublin 1 whereby she would act as caretaker principal for the new school until such time as it had a new building of it’s own in Beaumont.

The first two teachers appointed to this new school were Dolores McGuire and Mary Lyons, young teachers just straight out of training college and eager to make a success of their 1st appointments. These teachers met the children(90 Junior Infants) in Elm Mount every school morning and helped them onto a Double Decker Dublin bus with not an SNA or a Parent in sight!

This continued for 18 months until the school building was deemed fit to be occupied even though there were open trenches along the corridors, no electricity in part of the building and lots of other hazards that would give any  present day Health and Safety officer a heart attack. The school staff comprised of our new Principal Áine Boyle, Vice Principal Rita Doherty and 7 other teachers. The school grew and before long we were a six stream junior school and our numbers have remained fairly consistent over the last 35 years or so.
